ICC-ES Says It Is "Monitoring Westcoat's Use of Their Evaluation Report"
I don't really believe that, I think ICC would be happy to see me shut up and go away quite franklyand so would Westcoat...however that just ain't gonna happen...
So the situation is this; Westcoat has been forced to revise their CSI specification to remove the ICC-ES evaluation report number from the spec and eliminated the conflict with the evaluation report. That is due directly to my complaints to Construction Specifications Institute and ICC-ES...as they said above, thanks for bringing it to our attention...PAY MORE ATTENTION ICC-ES!
Why does ICC-ES allow this type of company to prey on us in an industry that is rife with construction defect suits and problems, and we have to deal with this BS? Why won't ICC-ES protect the public from Westcoat's lies and distortions?
ICC-ES continued to say in their email "We understand that they (Westcoat) still sell and market an assembly that is not in conformance with the evaluation report, but as we have noted to you in the past, companies having an evaluation report can produce products and assemblies that are not recognized in the report SO LONG AS THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THAT THOSE PRODUCTS OR ASSEMBLIES ARE COVERED IN THE REPORT."
Well isn't that special as the Church lady might say...so long as they don't represent that those products are covered in the report...well that is exactly what they have been doing ICC-ES, falsely representing that the ALX system as published in their website is covered under a report number...and that is what I'm BITCHING about. They don't produce the product in their report.
Westcoat lies, and ICC scolds them and says "Bad Boy, don't do that again." or something like that...
So continuing on with the email I got from ICC, ICC-ES said they are reviewing the Westcoat report currently and they expect there will be some clarification in the report as to the construction of the assemblies. Doesn't sound like any sanctions or hearings for revocation of the report coming to me...why not? ICC-ES own rules say they can revoke for cause. Cause being defined in their rules as mis-representing? Come on ICC-ES, do your duty and PROTECT THE PUBLIC!
The bottom line is this; DeckExpert has caught Westcoat lying twice now using an evaluation report in a fraudulent manner..and ICC-ES does nothing to protect the public. Maybe it's time some bigger news agency with more resources could do some investigation about this situation...does ICC-Es have something to hide about Westcoat? Seems they are bending over backwards to protect Westcoat...but maybe that's just my overactive imagination.

Westcoat Specialty Coatings is Now Blogging...and I am awaiting my comment on their ALX spec announcement to be denied
They don't have much yet, but they are crowing about a spec they got from some architect for a condo project out in W Covina. So I asked them about whether the company knows about the differences between their esr report vs their spec's...what do you want to bet my comment is not going to be approved?
SEE BELOW what they wrote, and what I asked...
Westcoat Gets Specified Again!
It’s always exciting to see specifications calling for your products. Creative Design Associates choose Westcoat’s ALX waterproofing system for a condominium project in West Covina, California. Great News!
HA HA, some hacker who knows I'm onto Westcoat's Bullshit has managed to pull off a good one! My license plate is DECKXPT and someone somehow put up an alternate image they made...maybe you could spend less time being a hacker and more time being truthful and honest. Thank you for the recognition of my accomplishments. I'm going to leave this here for everyone to see! Oh, I think we will contact Creative Design Associates to see if I can bid the job with Life Deck, an equal to or better (They have a one hour rating and Westcoat doesn't)!
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Are they specifying a fire resistant coating? Then you’d better tell them not to install WP-40 if they want to meet the ICC-ES report requirements…
What happened to the Bullshit CSI Spec? Had to change that to get ICC off your back?
Should I send Creative Design your ICC report for you? Make sure they are specifying it right?

Westcoat Revises CSI Spec for ALX, Removes Reference to ICC-ES Report.
The newly published sheet still specifies the use of the flammable and toxic when burning WP-40 membrane manufactured by Protectowrap. We are of the opinion that one should not use this product in any application where a Class A walking deck system has been specified as it's evaluation report limits it's use to sloped decks at least 16% and is restricted to use under tile or concrete roofing materials.
We've inquired to Michael Beaton at ICC-ES for a followup on his promise to review this latest gregarious offense...I'll keep you posted if we get a reply.
In the meantime, Westcoat continues to bullshit the public by referencing ASTM E119 and ASTM E109 One Hour and Class A fire ratings (tests which has never been seen by anyone that I know of) in the CSI spec. I say mislead because apparently from our investigations, the only testing ever done was a system that did not utilize the WP-40 under it.
So I am of the opinion that this published CSI spec is still a fraudulent document that I guess should be sent to ASTM for their review. Maybe they'll take umbrage at the mis-use of their standards...

Central Coast Waterproofing To Reseal and Repair decks at Fashion Park HOA in Oxnard
Thirty eight units with entry decks and balconies off the master bedrooms are scheduled to be repaired and resealed using Desert Brand products from Hill Brothers Chemical Company.
In keeping with our standards, details on the contract are not being made public.
Fashion Park HOA had Desert Brand's Desert Crete decking installed apx. 6 years ago under my management while I was employed with another decking firm. The Associations needs for a tough durable system that had a lower cost of ownership in reserve costs has been succesfully met at this Association that has lots of kids and whose decks see plenty of wear and tear. With the exception of stair edges that need repair because of a lack of nosings, the decks have handled the use and abuse just as we expected.
Mike DeJong will manage the project for All-Seasons Restoration.
If you are an HOA that would like to restore or repair your decks and receive the benefits of low cost of ownership, high quality coating and a professional installation by Central Coast Waterproofing, I invite you to call me personaly at 805-801-2380.
We service all of California, any HOA, anywhere, anytime.

WESTCOAT REMOVES THEIR "ALX CSI SPEC" FROM THEIR WEBSITE-DeckExpert accused them of fraud in publishing spec using ICC-ES Report Number

I stopped by Westcoat today, not literally, because they are far away in San Diego...but rather I stopped by their website to see what was up (or down).
On their specifications page, they had published an ALX CSI specification that used their ICC-ES report number. Photo's of the document are included in this post for you to review. In their installation instructions, they specify the use of WP-40, the flammable underlayment they use in their system that IS NOT PART OF THEIR EVALUATED SYSTEM for which they have report # ESR-2201. In the ALX CSI specs they listed the use of WP-40, the ICC report number and alluded that this was the system evaluated by ICC-ES. ISN"T THAT FRAUD? You decide...my opinion is they sought to defraud...
Well looking at the site today, I saw that the ALC CSI spec link is now dead, clicking on it results in taking one back to the home page. Click here to go to their spec page and click on it yourself to see...
We have inquired to the Construction Specifications Institute as to whether they made any complaints or took any actions against Westcoat for this fraud perpetrated against specifiers, architects and the public. At press time we are waiting to hear from them, we will update this story if/when we hear from them.
Is this an admittance from Westcoat that their spec was deceptive? Was Westcoat told to remove the spec by CSI? Why does Westcoat continue to attempt to deceive their customers, installers and suppliers with published documents that are wrong?
We are talking about fire safety here people, for products that are supposed to be helping to protect our homes...WILL ICC-ES FINALLY GET IT THAT THE PUBLICS RIGHT TO SAFE BUILDING MATERIALS OVERIDES EVERYTHING ELSE, INCLUDING THEIR FEES FOR GIVING A MFG A REPORT?
I hope so, but I am not that hopeful...
